Ledger Paper

Ledger paper presents endless possibilities for cutting out the grid shapes, dyeing with tea and then cutting and shaping again. I love the writing and numbers, as well as the patterns, lending a skeletal or architectural feel to the pieces.

Many pieces are made by first cutting ledger paper with a blade, then treating with watercolor washes, cutting more and gluing. From small pieces at 6 x 9 inches to large pieces at 70 x 16 inches.

I also use very heavy ledger paper from an old county record book. The large pages and the stiff paper allow for large sculptural pieces. Many of these are framed. They make fantastic shadows. They are pigmented with tea. On close inspection you can see the beautiful handwriting and numbers from the record book.
