For my works on fabric, I have sewn paper or textiles onto fabric backgrounds. They are hand-sewn. Some resemble maps; some, to me, look like the jungle, or maybe a map out of the jungle of my mind
Joomchi is an age-old Korean method of paper felting which transforms paper into a texture similar to cloth. These pieces are made of a type of mulberry paper known as hanji. The paper is cut, layered, soaked in water and then kneaded for hours, causing adhesion and shrinkage. Sometimes I add hand-stitching or sew them onto a fabric background.
